School's Out for Summer - Contract Surfacing Suffolk Schools

When many workers look forward to a summer break, you’ll find the Booth Tarmacadam team making hard-wearing tarmac surfaces whilst the sun shines!

August is particularly busy for the contract surfacing team, especially as it’s a time when there are no children in the school playgrounds or staff cars in the school car parks.

Here’s just a taster of some of the contract surfacing jobs undertaken by our hard-working team across East Anglia in a typical summer.

August Projects

Surfacing Contractors for Schools in Suffolk & Community Centres in East Anglia

Playgrounds, play areas, tennis courts and car parks – wherever there is a hard surface in schools or community facilities, it is of paramount importance that they are kept in good condition for the health and safety of everyone.

Cracks, potholes, loose edging, missing kerb-stones or crumbling tarmac can be more than just a trip hazard. These are the tell-tale signs that surfacing requires patching, replacing or that it is even coming to the end of its useful life.

In the summer of 2021 alone, Booth Tarmacadam undertook school contract resurfacing and tarmac surfacing maintenance work at a wide range of educational establishments in Suffolk, working to tight deadlines. These included:

  • School playground resurfacing Colchester - 6mm DBM wearing course at Stratford St Mary Primary School, Suffolk
  • School entrance way resurfacing Ipswich – including resurfacing the headmaster’s parking space at Orwell Park School Suffolk.
  • Car park patching and resurfacing in Ipswich – at Castle Hill Community Centre
  • Emergency vehicle access route creation and surfacing within school grounds in Ipswich – at Copleston High School, Suffolk. Existing school access routes and paths were widened to allow fire engine access to key points across the site.
  • Contract Surfacing Work in Schools

DBS-checked Suffolk Surfacing Contractors for Schools

At Booth Tarmacadam we take our responsibilities when working in environments alongside the general public very seriously. This is also very much the case when entering a school or public sector environment, whether or not the facility is open to the general public, students or pupils at the time.

With ‘Summer School’ clubs and activity groups increasingly in residence at schools over the July/August period to utilize the facilities, even our out-of-term-time work may put our team in a context of children and young adults.

As a result, we ensure that each and every one of our workers is fully DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked before undertaking work in any such environment.

Booth Tarmacadam - Working Responsibly with Safeguarding in Mind

As a responsible and mindful contractor and employer, we take proactive steps to support our staff, acting as nominated representatives where appropriate to complete online applications for DBS certification.

We undertake full identity confirmation checks in accordance with Government procedures - including checking against three forms of ID – and ensure that records are up-to-date and certificates fully validated.

At Booths, we also meet the costs of accessing these certifications for our employees. As a family-run business, it goes without saying that safeguarding is of particular importance to us.
